Jacky & Ross welcome you to the HollybushYou'll find the Hollybush, a friendly, welcoming 200-year-old countryside inn, on the picturesque crossroads in the village of Draethen, which is set in the countryside near Machen. The stylishly simple interior is light and airy with a nice mix of old furniture and a log fire that burns warmly in the winter. The Hollybush Inn has a downstairs bar area and upstairs there is a lovely restaurant with views over the village and stream.
The imaginative menu offers plenty of variety and changes two or three times per week. Given the tremendous quality of the locally sourced and freshly prepared food, prices are very fair. Remember to leave room for the legendary desserts.
Well kept ales (Timothy Taylor Landlord) join soft drinks, Welsh water and cider on the drinks list; the wine list is well compiled with an eclectic mixture of old and new world varietals, with over 10 served by the glass.
The garden is delightful in summer with shrubbery and trees sheltering the lawns and plenty of outside tables under parasols on the patio terrace. Should you over indulge, it is a perfect spot for a leisurely stroll around the village or indeed on the nearby hills or Rupera Castle.
Visit soon and have a great day out.
